Education – Dresden – Christmas holidays: union wants regulation for parents – education

Dresden (dpa / sn) – In view of the plans for early Christmas holidays in Saxony, the union has called for a regulation for working parents. “We call on politicians to enable affected parents of children under 16 years of age to have an unbureaucratic entitlement to paid time off for the additional vacation days,” said Saxony’s DGB chairman Markus Schlimbach on Wednesday. Many parents have already planned their entire annual vacation. The appeal of the federal states to employers to allow employees to work from home without any bureaucracy also met with skepticism from the union.

“Home office is simply not possible for many employees,” criticized Schlimbach, referring to sectors such as production, care, retail and logistics. In addition, home office and childcare are difficult to combine. “If the state closes schools, it has to ensure that the care is financed through paid leave,” says Schlimbach.

The Ministry of Culture was unable to provide any details on the plans on Wednesday. One wanted to wait for the deliberations of the country leaders with the Federal Chancellor, it said.

Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) announced early Christmas holidays for the Free State on Tuesday evening. The last day of school should therefore be December 18th.
