Edi Bērziņš’s experience traveling around Europe with an electric car

What are, in your opinion, the biggest advantages of electric cars?

In our case, unequivocally, the biggest plus is the ability to move for free. The owner of an electric car does not have to worry about the normal maintenance of the car and problems such as, for example, changing the oil. The car is also environmentally friendly – it does not pollute the air, it does not emit exhaust gases – and it is silent.

If you compare an electric car with a conventional one, what are the most significant differences?

The most significant difference is the cost of the car.

How has the transition from a traditional car to an electric car changed your daily life?

Everyday life has changed in the sense that we drive more, but with this we also have to spend more and more time at the charging stations.

How do you manage car charging? How much does a charge cost?

Every day, most of the time, we charge our car for free at the “Telsa” charging stations, at home – in a self-built charging station. I have not had to use conventional charging stations so far. When charging at home, it all depends on how much a kilowatt of electricity costs at that time. Our car has an 85 kilowatt battery that can travel an average of 320 kilometers. Mileage depends on various conditions: resistance to wind, rain, hills, etc. In any case, despite the rise in electricity prices, it is currently cheaper to drive with electricity than with fuel, and the savings are palpable.

Charging at a Tesla station typically takes about an hour, charging at home takes ten hours. It all depends on how big the car battery is and how many parts it is divided into, because when the battery is charged, its charging time increases. This is to not damage the battery and make it last longer. While charging the car, we usually read a book or watch movies. Mostly, the stations are located in places where there are no problems in shortening the times, for example when shopping in a supermarket, etc.
