Eddie Murphy is back in a very embarrassing trailer for A Prince in New York 2, the sequel to the cult film by John Landis.
More than thirty years after the first part directed by John Landis, director of Blues Brothers, The werewolf of London, and An armchair for two, Eddie Murphy will return as Prince Akeem, accompanied by his faithful confidant Semmi (Arsenio Hall), for his sequel A Prince in New York 2. Initially planned to be released in theaters, the Covid-19 pandemic even got the better of the famous prince since this sequel, this time signed by Craig Brewer (Dolemite is my name), was acquired by the Amazon Prime Video platform.
While Netflix buys prestigious films to broadcast them exclusively on its platform, Amazon, for its part, prefers to bet on cult comedy sequelss, like cardboard Borat 2: New Filmed Mission. A justified investment since the first film having brought in about 288 million dollars at the box office when it was released, the sum of 125 million for this buyout seems quite modest given the success that this second opus could bring to Amazon.
And after a first trailer revealed in December 2020 by the platform, Amazon returns to the charge with a new trailer even more embarrassing for this sequel which really smacks of cringe. As a reminder, we will find Prince Akeem in the guise of an Eddie Murphy who has aged well, about to become the new king of Zamunda, who suddenly discovers that he has a son, named Lavelle, living in Queens (classic).
Obviously, in order to honor his father’s last wish, Prince Akeem will have to return to the United States with his sidekick Semmi to meet his son, in what looms, in view of these new images, as a succession of gags heavier than the others. Between the multiple performances of Eddie Murphy dressed in old fashion and the references to Wakanda of Black Panther, everything seems to come together to give us a certain idea of hell on Earth.

The cast will include James Earl Jones, Wesley Snipes, Garcelle Beauvais, KiKi Layne, Teyana Taylor, John Amos, Leslie Jones, Vanessa Bell Calloway and Louie Anderson. And of course, all the characters played by Eddie Murphy who remains true to himself.
