Eating & Drinking – Offenbach am Main – Very good year for mushroom hunting – Society

Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – The mushroom season in Hesse has already begun: “After sufficient rainfall and sometimes humid temperatures, mushrooms can already be found in Hesse,” explained Dietmar Krüger, expert from the German Society for Mycology and mushroom teachers from Offenbach. He estimates the chances of success in mushroom hunting in Hesse and the Rhine-Main area to be high, even if the main season doesn’t start until autumn. You can currently find a lot of summer boletus and chanterelle mushrooms: “In all probability, this will be a very good year for the mushrooms – and the seekers.”

Fungi usually try to shed spores once a year or several times. Depending on the weather, they can develop new fruiting bodies every year. Anyone who has had success in finding mushrooms in recent years could therefore try it again at the same sites: “Mushrooms are true to their location – especially mushrooms that live in symbiosis with plants.”

Mushroom teacher Krüger is most excited about the mushroom species Krause Glucke: “They are less dependent on rain, as they live parasitically and infest trees – they” defy “hot temperatures, so to speak, like some other species.” That could become more and more important for the preservation of the mushrooms, because they are also affected by climate change. Many species cannot tolerate dry and very hot temperatures above 30 degrees. The mushrooms then stop growing or dry up.
