easyJet threatens to leave Madeira route for failing to implement changes to new mobility subsidy – O Jornal Económico

EasyJet said it “will not be able to implement the changes inherent” to the mobility subsidy, after the approval of the new model of mobility subsidy from Madeira approved by the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, and threatens to leave the route of the autonomous region.

“The implementation of these measures implies the expulsion of easyJet from a liberalized market, due to a political decision, which will force the company to interrupt the two domestic routes currently existing between Madeira and the Portuguese continent (LISFNC & OPOFNC), which will have a huge negative impact both on people’s lives, as well as on tourism and the economy of the entire region ”, says the airline.

EasyJet stresses that it has operated international routes to Madeira since 2007, and domestic routes since 2008, which brings “recognized benefits” to residents of the region, and ensure greater competition and lower fares.

“We will continue to monitor this decision, and to analyze all the details related to it, with our regulatory and legal teams”, reinforces the airline.
