The quake had its epicenter in the sea outside the village of Paleokastro in the far east of the island and was 10 kilometers deep, according to the Greek Athens Observatory.
According to the US Earthquake Center, the quake had a magnitude of 6.4.
There have been no reports of injuries or property damage so far. It is only two weeks since one person died and ten others were injured when another earthquake hit Crete.
