Early educational dropout decreases

That is, around 530,000 people, 343,000 men and 186,500 women, had dropped out of school in 2020.

The reduction is associated with an increase of 1.5 points in the proportion of the population that has reached ISCED 3 or second stage of secondary education.

The European 2020 strategy established in 2010 among its objectives to reduce early school leaving to below 10% in the EU and 15% in Spain, due to the high rates in our country.

Indeed, one of the main objectives of the LOMLOE, the education law that has just come into force with strong rejection by the educational community and the parliamentary opposition, is to reduce the rates of school dropout early in line with the most advanced European countries.

Since 2010, the rate of early abandonment in Spain it has decreased 12.1 points, from 28.2 percent in 2010 to 16 percent in 2020, which is 43 percent less.

This decrease has been greater among men (13.3 points) than among women (11 points), although the rate is still much higher in 2020 among men: 20.2 percent compared to 11.6 percent, that is, 74 percent more.

By Autonomous Communities, there are four that in 2020 have managed to fall below the 10 percent target and also below the EU average rate (10.2%).

These are the Basque Country (6.5%), Asturias (8.9%), Cantabria (9.1%) and Madrid (10%).

Another four communities had rates between 10 percent and 15 percent (Navarra, Galicia, Aragón and La Rioja), while at the opposite extreme, with rates higher than 20 percent, are Illes Balears (21.3%), Andalusia (21.8%), Ceuta (22.8%) and Melilla (25.5%).

Castile and Leon, the Valencian Community, Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Extremadura, Murcia and Castilla-La Mancha obtain rates between 15% and 20%

The EPA also provides information on the percentage of the population aged 30-34 who have attained higher education.

Last year, this rate rose to 44.8 percent, almost five points higher than the European average (40.3%).

Women, with a rate of 50.9%, exceed men (38.7%) by more than 12 points.

Regarding permanent training, the 2020 results also show an improvement.
