The accident happened in the Bikepark Leogang, on the so-called Hangman I route. That would be a difficult and technically demanding route, with a descent from 1759 to 1401 meters below the Asitz cable car.
Lost control over the wheel
The Dutchman would have jumped over a hill in the last bend of the route and thereby lost control of the steering wheel. According to the Austrian police, he crashed into an opposite slope and suffered fatal injuries.

Another mountain biker stopped on the hill after the accident to warn descending mountain bikers. Meanwhile, other cyclists provided first aid.
The rescue team of the park was also alerted and an air ambulance was called, but to no avail. The fatal accident is the second in 20 years.
