Dutch prime minister announces ‘end of lockdown’

The Netherlands is speeding up a number of relaxation of the corona measures. They go into effect on June 5 instead of June 9. Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte spoke of the ‘actual end of the lockdown’ on Friday evening.

The Dutch will be allowed to receive four people a day at home from June 5th. The museums, cinemas and theaters will also open again. Restaurants and cafes are allowed to let in a maximum of 50 people, but with reservations and fixed places. The catering industry can also open again from 6 am to 10 pm, both inside and outside. In addition, group sports are allowed again, with a maximum of fifty people for adults.

Rutte also announced that the next easing round will be brought forward from July 21 to June 30. From that date, our northern neighbors can receive eight people at home and the maximum capacity for restaurants and cafes will be increased to one hundred people. In addition, the catering industry can remain open until midnight. Competition matches are allowed again.

Vaccinating with a delay

According to the Dutch prime minister, ‘almost everything will open again’. Rutte spoke of a ‘calculated risk’ and an ‘exciting step’ and said that the lockdown will ‘actually come to an end’ and society will go from ‘closed to open’.

People over the age of eighteen in our northern neighbors will not have received their first shot against the corona virus until mid-July. That said the outgoing Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge. The vaccination program against the corona virus is delayed by about two weeks due to the supply problems at producer Janssen. ‘We need a little longer to give everyone the first shot. Instead of early July, it will be mid-July,” De Jonge reported.
