Fabio Quartararo win MotoGP Netherlands 2021 by defeating Maverick Vinales at the Assen Circuit, Sunday (27/6). Valentino Rossi had an accident and failed to finish.
Maverick Vinales who started from pole made a bad start. Quartararo took the lead over Pecco Bagnaia although he was later overtaken by the Ducati rider.
The best start was achieved by Marc Marquez. The Repsol Honda racer rose nine positions after starting from 20th position. While a bad start was achieved by Valentino Rossi, who dropped from position 12 to position 21.
Quartararo had time to overtake Bagnaia in the last chicane of the third lap, but then Bagnaia overtook him again on the straight into the fourth lap.
Quartararo’s lock occurred on the sixth lap when he passed Bagnaia at Turn 11. Quartararo started to drift away for more than 0.5 seconds over Bagnaia on the seventh lap.
Bad luck experienced by Rossi who had a terrible accident at Turn 7 on lap eight. A result that allowed Rossi to decide to retire from MotoGP at the end of this season.
Quartararo then moved away by 2.6 seconds over Bagnaia on lap 11. El Diablo was in a different class entering the 13th lap after leading by 3.4 seconds.
Bagnaia, who was under pressure from Takaaki Nakagami from the 11th lap, lost second place several times. Bagnaia then received a long lap penalty on lap-15 for violating the track limit.
After Bagnaia was hit by a long lap penalty and Nakagami almost bumped into Joan Mir, Vinales then moved up to second place and took the lead over Johann Zarco. At this point Quartararo was already 4.2 seconds ahead of Vinales on lap 17.
The Yamaha duo Quartararo and Vinales were not overtaken into lap 21. Vinales already had a 2.3-second lead over Mir in third on the lap. While Quartararo 3.1 seconds ahead of Vinales.
Vinales had cut the distance to 2.5 seconds with Quartararo on the last lap. However, Quartararo managed to maintain his lead and win the 2021 Dutch MotoGP. Mir took the third podium.
