Not much has changed at Düsseldorf Airport since the end of the summer holidays. “We continue to expect delays in check-in, security checks and baggage handling, especially during peak traffic periods, until the fall,” a spokesperson told 24RHEIN. This would make the ratings of Summary of summer holidays at Düsseldorf airport continue to apply. The reason: the continuing shortage of personnel at airlines and the security checks for which the federal police are responsible. In the case of the latter, there are still many cases of disease.
After the end of the summer holidays, the situation at Düsseldorf airport has improved considerably. Current waiting times are “in no way” comparable to those of the summer, a spokesman for the federal police said on request. The maximum values at Düsseldorf airport were recently 45 minutes.
To avoid a new chaos during NRW’s fall holidays, security service providers would continue to search for staff. However, this is “hard to find”. Whether in the end there will be long waiting times depends mainly on the number of travelers. According to the Federal Police, even a prognosis is “difficult” to make because of the Corona.

Cologne / Bonn Airport: Waiting times have “significantly improved”, but this should change during the autumn holidays
Waiting times at Cologne / Bonn airport have also “improved significantly” in recent weeks, says an airport spokesperson for 24RHEIN. By the way, why the Federal Police now uses a second service provider for security checks in Cologne / Bonn. For the NRW autumn holidays, however, the airport predicts that “during traffic peaks” there may be “longer waiting times”. This means weekends in particular.
According to the federal police, however, there are still a lot of sick leave at Cologne / Bonn airport, which is why, in the worst case, there could be staff problems again during the autumn holidays. At the same time, the airport expects many passengers to fly in early October, but promises that they are working to “allow all passengers a pleasant start to their journey without long waiting times.” The airport has not yet mentioned concrete measures. At the same time, Cologne / Bonn Airport once again stresses that it would be willing to do so contribute more to the security checks themselves. (or)
