During the festival, trade near the Aglona Basilica will be banned / Article / LSM.lv

Aglona County Council, in cooperation with the security services, has decided that there will be no trade near the basilica on the 14th and 15th of August at the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and several tourism services will be banned. Although trading will be allowed before and after the main holidays, there is little interest in it and no permits have been issued yet. In turn, local tourism, compared to other years, has become much more in demand.

The latest order of Aglona County Council, which is related to the celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Heaven, which is expected next week, envisages that trade will be prohibited in Aglona on August 14 and 15. Anticipating that a part of the city’s guests will only go shopping for the holiday, it has been decided to avoid crowding at the merchants’ tents and thus observe all the restrictions on gatherings set in the country.

“The interest from traders was very high, because they called and inquired from July. Currently, there is no interest in trading only on August 13 or 16, because traders also understand that the number of visitors to 3,000 at one event is very small.” said Ineta Poga, Executive Director of Aglona County Council.

No marketing authorizations have been issued yet. Tourists encountered in the territory of Aglona Basilica, however, believe that basic necessities should be available closer to the venue, they will watch the festival from a distance.

“Television urges us not to go to everyone. No, we will not go this year for sure, but here is a very beautiful, very tidy, really fantastic place! Visitors, say, water, ice cream and basic snacks must be available, there will only be problems for shops and visitors,” tourist from Mārupe Evita.

Tourists from Sigulda Raisa and Jelena also emphasized that distance and hygiene requirements must be observed.

With the growing interest of tourists in local tourism this summer, the number of visitors to Aglona has also increased. For the second year in a row, the municipality has been providing catamarans, SUP boards and pedal boats for free for the second year in a row, and in order to reduce the flow of people, at least during the holidays, this service will not be available on 14 and 15 August. The decision of the City Council in the recreation center is welcomed.

“I think that’s right. Somewhere in the middle of June, this madness also started, as I call it – for small Spain, because it’s time to come to Spain, but there are 200-300 visitors a day who not only use the equipment, but also just swim, “said Andris Kurmis, in charge of Aglona Attractive Recreation Center.

During the festival, the municipality also encourages local entrepreneurs to be responsible and timely assess the area of the premises and the number of people who can stay in them at the same time.

“The police promised to go to all 15 of our companies that are here, which in one way or another will still operate and provide information during the holidays, and also help. Maybe we can really pray remotely, because, say, the church promised, “This service will be available in other churches and on television. Thank God, our region is healthy and we would like it to remain the same after August 15,” added Ineta Poga, Executive Director of Aglona County Council.

In order to reduce the gathering in the territory of the basilica itself, the participants of the festival are invited to bring candles along with the entrance cards, instead of buying them at the last minute in Aglona or in shops along the way.
