Residents of the Duindorp district of The Hague received little or no water from the tap on Thursday morning. According to water company Dunea, this is due to the “illegal opening of fire hydrants”. The issues were resolved around 1pm.
Several fire hydrants were opened in the district last night. As a result, a pump failed and the water pressure in the area dropped.
Dunea and other water companies have already warned of the consequences of such incidents in recent days. Mechanics took nearly four hours to repair the damage to the pump.
Because the water pressure is divided into compartments, the problems were limited to Duindorp. About six thousand people live there.
Residents of Duindorp can currently experience reduced or no water pressure. Unfortunately, this is the result of the illegal opening of fire hydrants. Our colleagues are doing everything they can to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. It is expected to be resolved around noon.

Dunea puts preventive locks on fire hydrants in The Hague
In recent days, fire hydrants have been opened in several places in The Hague, because local residents were looking to cool down. Dunea, the police and the municipality emphasize that this is illegal and causes serious nuisance. Police have arrested two 17-year-old boys.
Dunea has announced that it will provide all previously opened fire hydrants with a lock. “People can no longer open the fire hydrant,” explains a spokesman. “But if the fire brigade has to come out, this means an extra action. That valuable time can make a big difference in a fire.”
The water manager is therefore only putting locks on taps that have already been opened.
The Municipality of The Hague is ‘preparing’ because of previous riots
The Mobile Unit (ME) had to turn out in the night from Wednesday to Thursday in the Schilderswijk in The Hague, because a group of 100 to 150 people caused unrest in the street. Four people have been arrested. The unrest arose when young people turned on fire hydrants and pelted the police and fire brigade with eggs, fireworks and stones.
The municipality of The Hague and the police have announced that they are discussing “necessary preparations” to prevent such incidents in the coming nights.
