Skier Martina Dubovská is nineteenth after the opening round of the World Cup slalom in Semmering, Austria. The American Mikaela Shiffrinová will attack the 44th victory in the discipline, behind which the Czech competitor was 2.34 seconds behind. The second round starts at 18:30.

The first ride was not published by the Slovak Petra Vlhová. The winner of five World Championships in a row is sixth with a surprisingly significant loss of 89 hundredths of a second to Shiffrin.
Dubovská, who started the season in November with tenth and twelfth place in slalom in Levi, lost mainly in the first half of the track. The second Czech, Elese Sommerová, started in the World Cup for the fourth time in her career and was one of fourteen slalom skiers who did not finish the first round.

The winner of the slaloms in Semmering in 2016 and 2018, Shiffrin, managed the upper, steep passage very well, slowed down a bit at the end and is two hundredths ahead of Swiss Michelle Gisin. Third is home Katharina Liensberger with a gap of 0.32 seconds.
Shiffrin last won the slalom a year ago in Lienz. For the rest of the season, she did not triumph in her strongest discipline due to her father’s death in February and the subsequent premature end of the season due to coronavirus. At the beginning of the current season, she was second and fifth in Levi. In mid-December, she won a giant slalom in Courchevel.
If the 25-year-old American does not hold the lead in the second round in Semmering, she will not win a single slalom in the calendar year for the first time in 2011.
