“Come on, brother. We have to solve that problem before it grows. And nobody has to know. The best thing to do is wait for him when he goes to work.” That message was part of a series of WhatsApp chats between an inmate housed in the Federal Penitentiary Complex I of Ezeiza, accused of
homicides and drug trafficking
, and a person you trust, who was arrested at a control of the
National Gendarmerie
in Misiones last May 26 when he was driving in a car that had been stolen in the city of Esquel.
The “problem” to which they referred, as sources of the investigation suspect, was the
judge Fernando Verón
, from the Misiones criminal jurisdiction, and the idea of ”waiting for him when he goes to work” was intended
run it with hitmen
that, presumably, they were going to arrive in Argentina from Brazil.
The message was sent between March 10-13. In those days there were others more specific about the criminal plan:
“I asked Brazil. Three metra pistols”
; “He follows up these days when he goes out to work. We sent him to a traffic light and bye,” and “crazy Andi spoke to you about Verón. That son of a thousand …”.
The discovery of the messages would not only have exposed the plan to assassinate Judge Verón, but would also confirm the existence of links between Argentine criminals and powerful Brazilian criminal organizations such as the
First Capital Command (PCC)
or the so-called
Bulletproof Way
bands that
they intend to take root in Misiones
to have full command of the
Triple Frontier.
Sources of the investigation supported
THE NATION
that the criminal plan devised to kill Judge Verón, who now has permanent custody of the
Mission Police
, was truncated by the closure of the borders and the controls on the routes that were arranged to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Aligned to Judge Verón, who took office in 2008, they explained to
THE NATION
that the magistrate “is afraid, but just and necessary fear to take the appropriate preventive measures.” They added that he was surprised by the criminal plan. “His life is no longer normal, he goes from his house to the court with custody. It is the first time that Verón is threatened,” added his collaborators.
At the request of the Missions judge Marcelo Cardozo, his colleague Federico Villena, in charge of the Federal Court No. 1 of Lomas de Zamora, ordered to search pavilion K of the Entry Module of the
Federal Penitentiary Complex I of Ezeiza
where is it hosted
Néstor Fabián Rojas
, supposed ideologist behind the criminal plan to attack Verón and known by the aliases of “El Sicario” or “el Negro”.
Verón was in charge of a double murder case where he investigated Rojas. In addition, according to the newspaper El Territorio, he awaits the oral trial for another cause in which the murder of a drug dealer is investigated.
The operation, led by personnel from the
National Gendarmerie
, started last Friday at 7pm and ended at 4am the next day. The documentation found in the prison is now analyzed.
The first clue
In addition to Rojas’s accommodation, four other cells were raided in the same pavilion where four Brazilian citizens who had been detained by the Gendarmerie in Misiones on September 14, 2019 at kilometer 785 of national route 14 during a vehicle control were housed. They were traveling in a Honda HR-V.
Everything that happened that day caught the attention of the gendarmes. The four Brazilians were without any documentation and without money. When the uniforms searched the vehicle they discovered under a seat
seven pistols
. There were five .380 caliber Trabzon; a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson and a 9mm Taurus. They also found clothing from the Argentine Federal Police (PFA): four sets of cap, sweater and jacket, 19 plastic seals and
of silencers
for pistol.
“Research began to try to determine
what they did in Misiones
. There is no doubt that they were to carry out a criminal plan. From a photograph on a cell phone, it was discovered that they had already been to Posadas and had stayed in a tourist cabin complex. In that place they were visited by an Argentine citizen, “recalled a source from the investigation.
The relationship of that Argentine citizen with the four Brazilians was a mystery until the Gendarmerie arrested the two occupants of a Nissan Sentra that had been stolen in Esquel on May 26. One of them was Baden, the contact for the other criminal group.
“It was a coincidence that attracted attention. Baden was accompanied by a Paraguayan citizen who had entered our country illegally. In the car we kidnapped
a glock pistol
nine millimeters, “said an investigator of the case. Justice ordered a raid on the house in Baden where his two brothers-in-law, one of them an Army volunteer soldier, were arrested and kidnapped
an american assault rifle
and other weapons.
“The suspicion is that Rojas was a kind of coordinator in Argentina of the Brazilian criminal groups. That is why we were very surprised that he was sent to the same ward where the four Brazilians detained in Misiones are housed,” said a detective in the case. . Another source who participated in the investigations in Misiones on Rojas, 43, maintained that “according to the Paraguayan National Police, this criminal is an important marijuana smuggler.”
Although at first it was thought that the four Brazilian citizens were members of the
PCC
researchers now assume that they were actually part of
Bulletproof Way.
