Dresden Pass offers senior citizens many advantages

Social ticket for public transport, free advice on tenancy law, free use of the municipal libraries – there are many good reasons for senior citizens to have a Dresden Pass. You are entitled to the Dresden Pass if you receive housing benefit or basic security benefits in old age and with reduced earning capacity.

Housing benefit and Dresden Pass

“Even if the housing benefit was rejected last year, a new application with the requirements that apply from 2021 could definitely be approved. That is why I advise all senior citizens: Let the social welfare office check your entitlement to housing benefit and your entitlement to a Dresden Pass. We are happy to help ”, recommends Social Mayor Dr. Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann. The reason for this is that tenants with low incomes are supposed to offset the new CO2 tax through social benefits. The housing benefit helps people who have sufficient funds for their general livelihood, but cannot cover their housing costs themselves.

Basic security and Dresden Pass

When you reach the regular retirement age, you can apply for basic old-age security if you have a low income. If there is a positive notification of benefits for housing benefit or basic security in old age, you are also entitled to the Dresden Pass and all related benefits, such as the social ticket for local public transport.

Housing benefit can be applied for in all citizens’ offices and in the social welfare office, Junghansstraße 2. The forms are available there; they can also be downloaded from www.dresden.de/wohngeld and www.dresden.de/dresden-pass.

Discounts with the Dresden Pass

In addition to the reduced fares through the social ticket for buses, trams, ferries and mountain railways, Dresden Pass holders are entitled to free advice on questions about tenancy law. It is primarily about support in matters of tenancy law, such as rent increases, incomprehensible additional payments when settling operating costs and when terminating the rental agreement.

The city’s cooperation partner for this advisory service is the tenants’ association Dresden und Umgebung e. V. am Fetscherplatz 3. Another advantage of the Dresden Pass is the free use of the city libraries, since the annual fee is waived, as well as the reduced visit to many cultural institutions in Dresden.
