Dr. Nedyalko Kalachev, owner of one of the largest chains of laboratories in Bulgaria. told Bulgaria ON AIR that Omicron will become dominant in the middle of this week for Sofia and in the middle of next week for the country.
“There is already a detected sample of a person with a booster dose who is infected with Omicron. The logic of the booster dose works – people have minor complaints. People with them will be infected, not sick,” said Dr. Kalachev.
According to him, with the dominance of this highly contagious variant of the virus, there will be no room for the flu.
“I expect that the number of infected students will soon lead to the schools going online again,” Kalachev said, adding that the pressure in the entire health system was enormous.
“In the situation of the now starting fire, there is nothing to measure the antibodies, put booster doses,” he was adamant.
“With the previous variants of the virus, there were antibodies of about 150 units, which were enough for protection. Delta raised the limit to over 500. This miracle, which is currently flooding us, and 1000 is not enough,” added Kalachev.
According to him, the detected combination between Omicron and Delta – Deltacron is not very important.
“Currently, outside the NCIPD system, we take samples that are in line with the logic of inside information. We do them twice a week and run about 48 samples,” he told Dr. Kalachev.
And whether there will be a shortage of antigen tests, he pointed out that these were signals from Western Europe and the United States.
“The Ministry of Health may have to ask about the situation in our country – whether there is a person who monitors the availability of suppliers at the administrative level, as many companies are engaged in the supply of this type of consumables,” said Dr. Nedyalko Kalachev.
Asked how he could tell the difference between Omicron and Delta, he said: “It is pointless for Sofia to do any new tests. Last week we did two different tests for Omicron. The first involved samples from all over the country, the result it was something in the range of 48-50%. We did the same thing with samples only for Sofia – the percentage went to 78% “.
