d’Or – Health. “The research dynamic continues” at Dijon CHU

Press release from Dijon-Bourgogne University Hospital

“As soon as the Coronavirus Covid-19 epidemic appeared, the medical and nursing teams at Dijon Bourgogne CHU demonstrated remarkable mobilization to provide each patient with the best possible care. At the same time, doctors, pharmacists , paramedics, clinical research associates, clinical study and laboratory technicians, administrative staff have shown a tremendous commitment to initiate, in record time, research projects aimed at better understanding the different dimensions of the epidemic, and provide appropriate responses, thus highlighting the varied scientific expertise and the dynamics that drive them on a daily basis.

Research dynamics revealed during the epidemic period

“Research is an integral part of the DNA of Dijon Bourgogne University Hospital”, explains Florence Martel, Director of Clinical Research and Innovation. “From March, our teams were asked to support research projects with external promotion, such as the famous European-scale trial,” Discovery “, intended to compare several treatment strategies for severe forms. of Covid-19 in hospitalized patients. At the same time, supported by the General Management and by the Presidency of the Establishment Medical Commission, we very quickly had the will to develop internally promoted research projects, that is to say directly resulting from the ideas of our doctors and researchers. One way to promote the scientific expertise specific to the Dijon Bourgogne CHU. “

Research projects made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and the support of the General Management

If the dynamic of the institution’s driving forces in terms of research was very quickly expressed, the launch of internally promoted research projects was made possible by the exceptional generosity of local donors, companies and individuals, who have expressed the wish to see all or part of their donations allocated to research. “On behalf of the Dijon Bourgogne University Hospital and all those involved in research, I would like to warmly thank the generous donors who have made it possible to actively fund several research projects, through a total allocated envelope of € 150,000. Their donations were decisive, and we are very grateful to them, ”emphasizes Florence Martel.

To this external generosity were added funds released by the Dijon Bourgogne University Hospital, in the amount of € 75,000. A substantial budget, which testifies to the General Management’s desire to support the internal initiatives of its research teams, fully aware of the challenges inherent in patient health.

Showing great adaptability and responsiveness, the Clinical Research and Innovation Department (DRCI) played an essential role in the identification of projects and in the management of the resources necessary for their implementation. . It also guarantees that the ethical, scientific and regulatory rules surrounding the launch of such research projects are respected. All in a particularly short period of time.

“On April 8, we launched an Internal Call for Tenders (AOI) with our researchers to collect their letters of intent for high impact Covid-19 research projects. Returns were expected by April 16 at the latest. As of this date, twenty-six projects have been proposed to us ”, specifies Florence Martel. “In 24 hours, the projects were evaluated and rated by two experts, according to criteria allowing to judge their clinical relevance, the robustness of their methodology and their capacity for implementation (resources to be deployed, number of patients involved , completion time, etc.). The next day, a classification meeting was organized, in the presence of doctors and methodologists, to ensure prioritization. Seven projects thus emerged, then quickly, three others were added to the list, thanks to the outpouring of generosity from donors which has been sustained over time. “”

Ten priority research projects, which mobilize a variety of expertise and services

“The ten internally promoted projects that have received funding are as follows:

– COLIPOVID: study of lipid metabolism, obesity and inflammation during severe acute pneumonia caused by Covid-19, in comparison with pneumonia caused by other pathogens (Dr N’Guyen);

– PRO-COVID: description of the components of the impact of the Covid-19 disease on the health perceived after hospitalization (“Patient Reported Outcomes in patients recovering from Covid-19”) (Pr Devilliers);

– COVID-IMMUNO: study of the immune response and the risk of admission to intensive care during SARS-Cov2 infection (Dr Ghesquière);

– CLEO CD: study aimed at evaluating the impact of containment linked to the Covid-19 pandemic on health behavior and access to care for patients with chronic diseases (“Covid-19 related Lockdown Effects On Chronic Diseases” ) (Prof. Boulin);

– LYMPHONIA-COVID: study of the lymphocytic immune response during Covid-19 pneumonia (Dr Blot);

– codePRONUT: prognostic impact of the nutritional status of people aged 70 and over with SARS-CoV-2 and death (Dr Putot);

– EPI-CV- COVID: epidemiological approaches to the cardiovascular consequences of Covid-19 (Pr Zeller);

– COCONUT: Covid-19 and sensory and functional nutritional consequences in adults (Dr Mouillot);

– DOMY-COVID: study of myocardial damage linked to Covid-19 (Pr Cottin);

– COVEXC-NM: study of neuromuscular adaptation mechanisms during muscle rehabilitation by eccentric exercise versus concentric exercise in Covid-19 patients. Ancillary from a randomized controlled study (Pr Ornetti).

These clinical research projects are mainly focused on professional practice, which proves that improving patient care and their health is really at the heart of the concerns of the Dijon Bourgogne CHU research teams. “
