Don’t @ me: Twitter lets users limit responses to their own tweets NOW

Twitter is going to enable users to limit responses to tweets or completely disable them, the company announced Wednesday at CES tech fair in Las Vegas. Users can choose to completely disable responses, limit them to followers or write to people mentioned in the message Mashable.

The standard option, where anyone except blocked users can respond to a tweet, also remains. The new options will be tested in the coming months, after which Twitter wants to make the feature available worldwide later in 2020, writes The Verge.

According to Twitter product manager Suzanne Xie, users can in all cases still use the option to retweet a message with a comment. With this option, Twitter users post a tweet in their own timeline, with their own comments in up to 280 characters.

Twitter users often use the text Don’t @ me if they (jokingly) indicate that they do not need responses to their tweet. The text is a reference to the use of usernames that begin with an at sign. If Twitter users want to respond to someone else, they must start their response with that person’s username.
