Jakarta – Astronomer and astronaut are two similar fields of work. The similarity is that the two professions are both related to outer space.

1. Tasks

Astronomers are people who study and research all celestial bodies and the universe. An astronaut is someone who is trained to travel in a spacecraft to carry out missions.

2. Work

The job of an astronomer is to make observations, process observational data, or perform calculations and computations to explain observations or test theories.

An astronaut’s job is to carry out various missions. Such missions include experimentation, launching satellites, maintaining spacecraft or becoming a space shuttle pilot, and commander of the international space station.

3. Office

An astronomer’s office is located in observatories, planetariums, and other research and science institutes.

Meanwhile, the astronaut office is located on a plane or space station. They also travel to space to make repairs and deploy satellites.

4. Qualification

The requirements to become an astronomer are:

– Graduated from majors related to astronomy, physics, and other pure sciences.

– Exploring one of the special studies in the field of astronomy such as star physics, computing, astrobiology, and so on.

– Having scientific research skills such as conducting investigations, critical analysis, to formulating hypotheses.

– Able to adapt and not easily give up.

The requirements to become an astronaut are:

– Completed at least S1 or S2 studies in the field of Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) or Doctoral Medicine.

– Have a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience as an expert or jet pilot.

– Take training and pass the test to become an astronaut.

– Able to adapt and not easily give up.
