Don’t be so hysterical about that SGP party program with the € 1000 for every fourth child – De Dagaily Standaard

Many people are angry about the SGP that promises parents of four children € 1000 once. It really isn’t big deal, guys.

Just like the other parties, SGP also uses this time to announce the election program and the list of candidates for the parliamentary elections to be held in four months. But since the SGP is quite a bit more Reformed than the rest of the parties, there are also quite a few… Reformed plans in the program.

Most striking, however, is a new idea that should apparently generate the voices of parents of large families: at the birth of the fourth child the parents will receive € 1000 on the account, as a form of compensation for having to make adjustments – such as buying a larger car.

Much hilarity about the plans on social media, but both supporters and opponents should not make this policy idea bigger than it is. Firstly, because families with more than four children in this country are quite an endangered species. This is a plan that very few people benefit from – and as a result, costs very little.

Secondly, you can do very little with € 1000, if you weigh that against the costs you incur for a child from birth up to and including the eighteenth year of life. Think of all those kilos of food, all the clothes, all the toys, all the birthday parties and all the holidays: even the most frugal parents will have spent that $ 1000 long before the baby number 4 in question has its first candle on its first birthday cake can blow out.

So let’s not pretend that the SGP has now suddenly introduced a “breeding premium”: do you know someone who disrupts family planning because the SGP offers a reward of € 1000? No of course not.

Leave this one red herring so just enjoy sailing and tackle the SGP on matters that really matter. Such as the fact that the candidate list again does not contain a single woman. Is the SGP really so fond of being the most misogynistic party in the Netherlands? That seems to me to be a more important question than the false dilemma of whether or not a thousand euros is a good idea for the new parents of child number four, doesn’t it?
