That China is ahead of Europe in the development of affordable electric cars is nothing new. After all, Czech customers will be able to see for themselves this year; the five-door, five-seater Dongfeng Box electric car with a length of 4.03 m should arrive on the market. It will offer an LFP battery of two sizes (31.45 or 42.3 kWh) with a target WLTP range of 300 and 400 km, a front-mounted PSM engine with a power 95 ka 160 Nm and even some expensive solutions such as recessed handles and frameless doors. In short, a car the size and driving performance of a Fabia, although simply cut, but modern and with good equipment, including full-fledged multimedia. A car that should arrive on the Czech market this year.

According to the information provided by the importer of the Dongfeng brand, the Slovak company Plastonic s.r.o., all this should start below the half-million crown mark, where after the departure of the Škoda CitigoE and the gradual increase in the price of the original version of the Dacia Spring, no full-fledged electric car has been offered for some time. Spring should return to this limit after the recent facelift, but it is a class smaller and structurally significantly older. So it seems that European brands including Škoda Auto, which plan to launch several models on the European market starting next year with a starting price of at least one hundred thousand crowns higher, will have a lot to do in order to defend their worse price-to-equipment ratio to customers. After all, Škoda is already planning a cheaper electric car, but we probably won’t see it before 2028. We’ll see if the whole plan is not spoiled by the European authorities with the planned customs barrier.
