domestic violence at the heart of concerns in Tarn-et-Garonne

The figures concerning security in the Tarn-et-Garonne have been made public. The observation at the level of the department is the same as at the national level: an upward trend in acts of general delinquency. To compensate for this increase, a mobilization of the security forces is put in place.

The Tarn-et-Garonne prefecture has released its security figures, and we can’t really be happy about it. If the facts of general delinquency were down after two consecutive years – thanks to the restrictive measures linked to Covid19 -, they are starting to rise again. The figures for 2022 are therefore substantially similar to those before the crisis, in 2019. This increase is mainly linked to the increase in burglaries.

The most striking figures for this year 2022 are indeed those concerning willful attacks on physical integrity, with above all a constant increase in intra-family violence, of which domestic violence is a part. “The word having been released“, according to the prefecture. In 2021, 645 acts of intra-family violence had been recorded for 809 in 2022. “This policy is an absolute priority for all law enforcement agencies, which has resulted in a number of concrete measures“, insists the prefect. Among them:

  • appointment of two lead police officers in each of the districts, including an officer,
  • immediate and systematic notification of the public prosecutor’s office of any act of domestic violence, even without a complaint from the victim,
  • creation of a third social worker post shared between the police and the gendarmerie,
  • and the creation of a house for the protection of families by the gendarmerie.

If domestic violence is a priority, everyday safety is just as important. It’s about a “partnership action strategy aimed at identifying and solving security problems and contributing to bringing the police closer to the population of its territoryThis strategy, launched in 2018, has since been the subject of numerous investments in terms of day-to-day safety, in particular with the installation of video protection and a significant reinforcement of foot patrols.

The prefecture confirms that the police have considerably intensified their presence on the ground in 2022, both on public roads and in schools or as part of transport security operations.

Another important axis in this security policy: narcotics. In Montauban, the constitution of a specialized group has made it possible, thanks to its knowledge of the local delinquent environment, to obtain satisfactory results in 2022. Namely that 20 drug trafficking cases were resolved last year in the police zone .

The national plan to fight against narcotics deployed throughout the territory has made it possible to identify five points of deals“, says the prefecture. Knowing that three of them are located in districts of Montauban where targeted checks are regularly carried out. The year 2022 was also marked by the dismantling of the Beausoleil deal point, according to the authorities.

If in terms of narcotics the figures are rather encouraging, those of road safety are not. The department ranks 6th position of the deadliest, with 22 deaths on the roads in 2022. However, the prefecture would like to point out that “this deterioration is established in comparison with the years 2020 and 2021, the best years ever recorded due to confinements and less traffic“.

The orientation and programming law of the Ministry of the Interior (LOPMI), law of January 24, 2023, provides in particular 5 billion euros over 5 years for the services of the ministry, with the recruitment of 8,500 police officers and gendarmes, new digital means and finally, the creation of 200 new gendarmerie brigades. More specifically, for the department of Tarn-et-Garonne, this is materialized by the future installation of a CRS in Montauban and by the establishment of new gendarmerie brigades. Added to this is the establishment of a departmental anti-delinquency plan.
