Felix Neureuther (35) and Beat Feuz (32) have enjoyed a friendly relationship for years. After our “Kugelblitz” barely got around a knee amputation in October 2012 after a serious infection, Neureuther forwarded it to his wonder physio Max Merkel in Schliersee. And Neureuthers ex-coach Manfred Widauer has been in charge of the two-time Downhill World Cup winner from Emmental since 2015.
Germany’s slalom king, who ended his career last spring, was one of the first to congratulate him yesterday after Beats second downhill rank. On this occasion, the two also spoke about a serious problem. What is it about? Neureuther has been working as a ski expert for ARD since this season. And since this winter, the same rule applies to the TV station, which is the first program in Germany to be famous, as on ZDF – ski racers are not allowed to appear for interviews with drinking bottles printed with the sponsor’s logo or inscription.

Feuz manager is against boycott
The Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr has refused to interview the second German television after his Super-G victory in Val Gardena because of this regulation. The question arises: Would Beat Feuz still give his friend Neureuther an interview today if he succeeded?
–
Feuz manager Giusep Fry made it clear to BLICK last week that he advised his protégé against boycotting an interview because it would rob his ski equipment supplier and the head sponsor of valuable publicity. Feuz himself does not sound as determined as his marketer on this matter: “Whether or not I go to the ARD will be seen when the time comes …”

Despite his new TV role at ARD, Neureuther can understand the reservations of his long-time racing driver colleagues: «The footballers can also watch live beer on German TV at the championship celebration. That’s why I find it extremely sad that a ski racer is no longer allowed to hold a water bottle in his hand during the interview. »
