all about the new rates of Stas

metropolitan council

“The energy crisis is destabilizing all public transport networks in France, and several of them have already reacted by applying massive price increases”, assured Luc François, vice-president of Saint-Étienne Métropole (SEM ), during the metropolitan council which took place this Thursday afternoon, at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

The Stas network is obviously not immune to this explosion in energy and fuel prices, which should result in an increase of at least 5 million euros in operating expenses over the year 2023.

“In order to guarantee the maintenance of the investments programmed to maintain and improve the quality of the service”, in particular by purchasing 100% “green” vehicles and by developing the trolleybus elected metropolitan officials have therefore decided to raise the rates for Stas.

The 1h30 ticket goes from 1.40 to 1.60 €

From 1is March, the 1h30 ticket purchased at a terminal will thus go from 1.40 to 1.60 €, that purchased on board, from 1.60 to 1.80 €. This represents increases of 14% and 12.5% respectively.

The ten-trip card will now be sold for 12 euros, compared to 10 euros today. And with the Flexibility/Liberty title, the trip will also cost €1.20 instead of €1. Here, the increase reaches 20%.

Luc François, vice-president of SEM in charge of transport, however, insisted that the community had chosen to subject this increase only to occasional travelers (i.e. 25% of network users).

Indeed, the different subscription formulas, monthly or annual, whether at full price or at reduced price, do not, however, suffer any increase. Not more than the “solidarity” subscription at 10 euros per month (or 110 euros per year) set up in June 2021 for people under 26 and over 60 in particular.

“We remain the cheapest network in France”

Luc François also recalled that the price list had not changed since 2015. And the mayor of La Grand-Croix assured: “We were one of the three or four cheapest networks in France. We are now downright the cheapest. »

For comparison, the single ticket is €1.70 in Nantes, €1.80 in Grenoble or Le Havre, and €2 in Lyon. For a ten-trip card, you have to pay €15 in Clermont-Ferrand or Le Havre, €16 in Nantes and €19 in Lyon.

“Also knowing that we are one of the rare networks to offer a title valid for an hour and a half, against only an hour elsewhere, and allowing you to go back and forth”, underlined Luc François.
