Several doctors warned of the lack of conditions to care for the elderly in the home of Reguengos de Monsaraz and were even intimidated by disciplinary proceedings. The information to which TVI had access, it appears in the report of the Commission of Inquiry of the Medical Association to the outbreak of covid-19 in this institution.
At a meeting, attended by representatives of the Public Health Authority, the Health Center Group of Alentejo Central and the director of the Regional Authority, home physicians reported that if they refused to work, they would be subject to disciplinary proceedings.
The Public Ministry is already investigating the complaints expressed in the report, which the Minister of Social Security admitted that she did not read.
Home did not comply with guidelines from health authorities
The Reguengos de Monsaraz home where an outbreak of covid-19 caused the death of 18 people did not comply with the guidelines of the Directorate-General for Health, concludes an audit by the Ordem dos Médicos, which points to responsibilities for the administration.
The Order of Doctors commission of inquiry report to assess the clinical circumstances of the covid-19 outbreak says it was not possible to comply “Differentiated isolation for those infected or even social distance for suspected cases”.
The committee concluded that “Human resources were insufficient to provide adequate care at home, even before the covid-19 crisis, a situation that was aggravated by positive tests among employees, which prevented them from working”.
In the interview with Expresso, the Minister of Social Security admitted that there is a shortage of employees in the homes, noting that there is a program to fill this gap, but considered that the magnitude of the covid-19 outbreaks “It’s not too big in terms of proportion”.
Regarding the report that the Order of Doctors sent her and in which situations of therapeutic abandonment of home users are denounced, the minister defended that this is “A valence of Health”, refusing to comment.
