Dr. Mahmoud Hamida, Professor of Neurology at Ain Shams University, said that Moamen Zakaria’s disease is a rare and uncommon condition of the nervous system.

He indicated that Moamen Zakaria’s disease affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, and leads to muscle atrophy, which begins mildly.
He pointed out that there is no clear and certain reason for the disease that Moamen Zakaria suffers from, stressing that there are those who have talked about an imbalance in the immune system, the effects of environmental factors, and disturbances in certain chemicals in the nervous system.
Dr. Mahmoud Hamida, Professor of Neurology at Ain Shams University, added that the disease appeared in large numbers of the forces participating in the Gulf War in 1991.
