Do you enjoy being here?

We think it’s great: Of course we don’t mean the graffiti above the Frankfurt theater tunnel, but our newsletter of the same name. Bild: Hannah Aders

We want to improve our newsletter, in Hesse the expansion of the Autobahn is now to be accelerated and a car shop of a different kind has been opened in Frankfurt. The FAZ Hauptwache takes a look at the topics of the day.

Good evening,

what is the enemy of good? Of course you know: the better. Of course, we here in our modest editorial office in Frankfurt’s Europaviertel think this newsletter is great, which we write day after day with affection, downright love – but in case you’ve always wanted to write us something about it, praise, criticism, suggestions for improvement, whatever , now is the opportunity. We’ve even set up our own email address to handle the flood of reactions: [email protected]. We look forward to every letter, and a colleague who would like to use this newsletter to write a thesis for his studies is particularly pleased.

Should the good really become better? Of course, that’s debatable in real life. For example, it is good that Hesse is criss-crossed by freeways, but should they really get better, i.e. get more lanes? It’s quickly controversial today, there are more and more critics of car traffic. Now the traffic light coalition in the Bundestag has laboriously agreed that 144 motorway projects in Germany, 29 of them in Hesse, should be accelerated, but somehow the small sentence slipped into the protocol that this has to be done in agreement with the respective federal states . Therefore, the black-green state government in Wiesbaden must now deal with the question of whether, in order to reduce traffic jams, the A3 and 5 motorways, known from radio, television and the bright red bars on the navigation system, should have more lanes or not. You could just ask the drivers. Four colleagues have dealt with the regional reactions to the agreement in Berlin: Mechthild Harting, Ralf Euler, Patricia Andreae and Barbara Schäder. And all four suspect that it won’t be the last time.

Definitely bettersmall jump when downtown shops open instead of closing. Colleague Petra Kirchhoff, who specializes in retail, can report similar things from downtown Frankfurt, where more and more car shops can be found. The Chinese e-car brand Nio has now also opened a showroom, which is making a name for itself with a new type of technology: the company changes the batteries in the car, so you don’t have to charge them yourself. The catch: So far there are only three exchange stations in Germany. But there should be more. Good this way.

And also is being investigated against a member of the state parliament for forging documents – according to information from the FAZ against Marius Weiß (SPD), who is said to have forged a parking permit for the Hessian state parliament +++ the Frankfurter Kunstverein shows up-and-coming art from the Rhine-Main area +++ the police said after shots were fired in a high-rise building in the Wolfgang district of Hanau launched a manhunt on Tuesday evening.

I wish you a pleasant evening

Yours, Manfred Koehler
