DJI Mavic Air 2 lands in Europe

With the Mavic Air 2, the drone manufacturer DJI is launching a new folding drone. It is particularly suitable for aerial photography, as the Chinese company wrote in a statement.

The Mavic Air 2 weighs 570 grams and can stay in the air for up to 34 minutes. The drone supports the pilot with numerous assistance functions during flight. The drone has obstacle sensors on the front and rear, a warning system for collision avoidance with other flying objects and geo-fencing technology GEO to protect areas such as airports. The sensors can also be used for a safe automatic landing.

The Mavic Air 2 is “a drone that gives even the most inexperienced pilot the best possible overall experience,” said Roger Luo, DJI President.

4k shots and chases

A larger camera sensor enables numerous new photo and video functions. In addition to 4k video recordings at 60 frames per second and 120 megabits per second, slow motion and HDR video recordings are possible. Photos can be taken with 12 megapixels or with the 48 megapixel function. A motorized gimbal is supposed to compensate for blurring, it is said.

The camera also has AI-supported functions. The drone should improve recordings in low light, automatically select the best picture and be able to recognize the respective recording scenes such as sky or trees.

Tracking functions allow an automatic flight route to a specific target motif or the fixation on a target object.

With the “DJI Fly” app, the recordings can be edited or transferred over a distance of up to 10 kilometers. There are also a number of tutorials for beginners.

The Mavic Air 2 is scheduled for delivery in Western Europe in mid-May. It can be pre-ordered from authorized dealers and DJI’s own online store. The price is 849 euros. In addition to the drone, the scope of delivery includes a battery, a remote control and all necessary cables. Additional accessories and combination offers are also available.
