Osom’s first mobile will not be released until next year, has a crypto focus

Those who are tired of existing smartphone manufacturers and welcome new players have had two upstarts to look forward to this year: Nothing and Osom. The latter manufacturer was founded by former Essential employees.

Like Nothing, Osom would release its first smartphone in 2022, but now it has been discovered that it will only come “early 2023”. Osom has also changed direction and chosen to create a smartphone with a cryptocurrency focus (which did not go any further for HTC).

The phone will not even have “Osom” in the name but is instead called Solana Saga, in collaboration with Solana. Osom has published a collection of specifications. The device has a 6.67-inch AMOLED (120Hz), Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.

Other tasks listed are a 4100mAh battery, wireless charging, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and mono speakers. The cameras consist of a 50MP main camera, a 12MP super wide angle camera and a 16MP front camera.

Solana Saga runs a “proprietary” version of Android, which we interpret as its own interface. Nothing niched itself through a unique backdrop and Osom’s niche is thus cryptocurrencies. Essential only released a smartphone before the company went to the grave and it is possible that the unofficial successor will face the same fate.
