Chilling recently published images reveal the complications that funeral services in New York City (USA) have been experiencing for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this week it was announced that some 650 bodies of people who died from covid-19 during the spring of this year in the city have not yet been buried and remain stored inside freezer trucks.
An aerial photo shows about 50 of those white refrigerated vehicles lining up in a parking lot on the 39th Street pier in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn.
These makeshift morgues were set up between April and May, when New York closed its metropolitan area as coronavirus cases and deaths increased. Corpses that could not be immediately buried were placed in freezers.
Hundreds remain in storage since then, as the relatives of some of the fatalities have not been located or cannot cover burial costs, according to the Office of the Forensic Physician.
While there is the possibility that the unclaimed deceased will soon be buried in a grave for the poor on Hart Island, Mayor Bill de Blasio promised that mass burials will not take place in temporary graves.
Meanwhile, in recent days the US has been experiencing an increase in infections in what is considered the second wave of the pandemic.
