Most students in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have been learning at home again since the beginning of the year due to the corona. There are still big problems with distance learning. This is shown by the results of an online survey.
An online survey of several thousand teachers, parents and students in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania revealed major problems with distance learning. State Parents’ and State Schoolchildren Council draw the conclusion from their survey: Most of the students do not have real distance learning. The so-called distance learning is a processing of tasks that are sent back and forth, said student council spokesman Anton Fischer. Many students would no longer have a regular daily routine, the tasks “just fly around our ears”, says Fischer literally. The student responses also showed that almost half cannot claim any support from their parents.
Heavy burden for teachers
Teachers are also significantly more stressed, according to the head of the Education and Science Union (GEW), Maik Walm. They would teach in parallel at school and at a distance and receive inquiries around the clock. State Parents’ Council spokesman Kay Czerwinski calls for the students to be given alternate classes and social contacts as quickly as possible and to adapt the learning goals of the grade levels to the situation.
Non-representative survey
The survey by the state parents ‘and state school councils and the GEW teachers’ union is not representative. Due to the high number of participants of almost 13,000 parents, a good 9,000 pupils and 1,262 teachers, it can be assumed that a credible opinion on the school had emerged in the country during the pandemic, the three associations said.
