President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked ministers and heads of institutions to regulate the behavior of officials in their respective agencies. He said officials should not show off their wealth on social media like Instagram.
This was conveyed by Jokowi when opening the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, Thursday (2/3/2023). Jokowi said that the act of showing off power and wealth on social media by officials was very inappropriate.
“I want to emphasize that we should emphasize to our subordinates, don’t show off your power, don’t show off your wealth, let alone display it on Instagram, on social media, if bureaucracy is really, really inappropriate,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi said his instructions had to be carried out in all agencies. He said agency leaders must clean up their institutions.
“Then, at the National Police as well as at the Attorney General’s Office and other legal apparatus. Fix it first inside, then finish and clean up the ministries or other institutions,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi reminded that bureaucratic reform must continue. He said officials who flaunted their wealth disappointed the people.
“No wonder the people are disappointed because the service is considered not good, then the apparatus behaves arrogantly and shows off power, then shows off strength, shows off wealth, is hedonic,” he said.
