March 13, 2020, 4:05 p.m.

Los Angeles (dpa) Disneyland likes to portray itself as the “Happiest Place on Earth”. But the theme park will not be happy in the next few weeks. The plant in California is closing due to the corona virus, and Disney is also shutting down in Florida and Paris.

The attractions on the grounds in Anaheim just outside Los Angeles are a big tourist magnet.

Because of the corona virus crisis, the US entertainment giant Walt Disney temporarily closes all its amusement parks. The company announced the closing of the Walt Disney World amusement parks in the US state of Florida and Disneyland in Paris for several weeks from Sunday to the end of the month.

A few hours earlier, Disney had announced that its oldest amusement park, Disneyland, California, will be closed Saturday through late March. Disney theme parks in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai have been closed for several weeks.

No cases of coronavirus infections have been reported in Disneyland, California, but the closure is in the best interest of visitors and employees, the release said. It follows the Californian governor’s recommendation not to hold events with more than 250 people in the west coast state.

The attractions on the grounds in Anaheim just outside Los Angeles are a big tourist magnet. Most recently, the amusement park that opened in 1955 and likes to pretend to be the “Happiest Place on Earth” was closed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States.
