Since when has the Chancellor no longer considered it necessary to explain her decisions to the population?
With a remarkable press release, the Federal Chancellery announced the dismissal of the Eastern Commissioner Christian Hirte (43, CDU):
“Today, in agreement with the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Federal Chancellor proposed to the Federal President in accordance with Section 4 Clause 2 ParlStG the dismissal of Parliamentary State Secretary Christian Hirte.”
Reason: none!
Instead of justifying the decision, the government spokesman refers to a paragraph authorizing the Chancellor to relieve Hirtes. The German population, the CDU and the Thuringian state association, whose deputy chief is Christian Hirte, should understand the reasons for themselves. Or blindly trust the Chancellor.
Angela Merkel, who had been silent on party political matters for a long time, reported back to the CDU with a patronizing all-round.
The Chancellor clarifies in the coalition committee that “early elections in Thuringia” would be the best for everyone. Bodo Ramelow (63, left), with whose party the Thuringian CDU was not allowed to negotiate until recently, may now be prime minister after all. And Christian Hirte is thrown out of the government for a tweet.
While the Chancellor wants to decide the future of the Thuringians from Berlin, the Thuringian CDU MPs on Twitter have to endure the cheers of the competition. Top representatives of the Greens, Leftists and SPD cheer euphorically for the dismissal of their party friend. SPD Vice Kevin Kühnert (30) openly demands that shepherds “have to follow many”.
With the dismissal of the East Commissioner, the Chancellor wanted to appease the coalition partner, take the ailing CDU leader Kramp-Karrenbauer out of the line of fire and send a power signal to the party.
But many in the CDU, whether at the grassroots or in party offices, are fed up with Merkel’s style – crackdown and silence. The CDU of the Chancellor will not soon forget Christian Hirte’s dismissal.
