JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and Pertamina have started implementing fuel CN 51 diesel oil with a sulfur content of 50 ppm, equivalent to Euro IV on April 1, 2022.
Through this fuel, it is believed that the level of carbon emissions from diesel cars will be significantly reduced due to the use of lower sulfur content, which is only a maximum of 50 parts per million (ppm).
This limit follows the Euro IV standard so that it is much different from the type of diesel fuel that has been circulating first. Pertamina Dex, for example, has a maximum sulfur content of 500 ppm.

“The exhaust emissions of vehicles that use this type of fuel will certainly be cleaner, which in turn will improve air quality to be cleaner and healthier,” said the Director General of Oil and Gas. Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Tutuka Ariadji quoted from BetweenSaturday (4/2/2022)
“Furthermore, it will significantly contribute to supporting Indonesia’s energy transition program,” he added.
However, due to being a new version of Pertamina Dex, the price solar 51 equated, which is around Rp. 14,000 per liter.
As for this implementation, it is a follow-up to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number P.20/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/3/2017 of 2017 dated April 7, 2017 concerning Quality Standards for Exhaust Gas Emissions for New Types of Vehicles Category M, Category N and Category O.
As well as the Letter of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number S-786/MENLHK-PPKL/SET/PKL-3/5/2020 dated May 20, 2020 regarding Postponing the Application of Diesel Motor Exhaust Emissions.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) obliges every business and production activity motor vehicle which has four wheels or more of a new type to meet the provisions of the Exhaust Emission Quality Standard.
Where the test is carried out using diesel fuel with a minimum Cetane Number (CN) parameter of 51, a maximum sulfur content of 50 ppm and a viscosity of 2-4.5 mm2/s which will take effect on 7 April 2022.
