Did you know that physiotherapy is a branch of medicine?

Physiotherapy is a branch of medicine, which does not use drugs, but physical means, such as heat, cold, electrotherapy, etc., in order to recover, re-adapt and enhance the quality of life of patients.

For this it is necessary to carry out a preliminary assessment as soon as possible after the injury, being able to use evaluative maneuvers or clinical examinations (radiography, tomography, etc.) to be able to identify and treat the type of lesion that occurs.

In physiotherapy different techniques are managed with which we can help patients, for example, electrotherapy; which is one of the most famous and uses electricity for a therapeutic purpose, this will help us remove pain, deflate, relax, strengthen, etc., depending on the modality in which it is applied.

Another method is therapeutic massage, which is a set of manual techniques applied to the anatomy of the body for different purposes, such as relaxation, disinflammation and elimination of contractures. This uses the most important tool of a physiotherapist: the hands.

Hot compresses allow increased blood supply in the affected area. They are able to relax and can be wet or dry. Wet heat type compresses better help the body relax. They must have a temperature greater than 42 ° C and less than 48 ° C and always using means that allow us to isolate the heat of the same towards the patient, allowing greater comfort.

Therapeutic ultrasound is used to eliminate adhesions in various tissues, and in the regeneration of the lesion, etc. This can be used even in tissues 5 cm deep, helping its regeneration.

Therapeutic exercises allow the recovery of the muscles affected by some type of injury, this through different workouts to optimize the performance of the area.

Prevention is also part of physiotherapy, which is to support the optimal functioning of the body to avoid injury. Part of this may be the functional bandage; This bandage serves to limit the mobility of some joint (in the case of footballers it is used to prevent ankle sprains). We also have the neuromuscular bandage or tape, which allows you to relax, support and drain, among others. And muscle strengthening as the main prevention method.

All these techniques can be part of a patient’s recovery, always remembering that only a professional will be the one to perform these procedures.
