Gwendolyn Rutten, ex-president of the Flemish liberals, was on Friday the guest of the VRT program “De Afspraak” and revealed that the president of the N-VA was however well and truly ready to join a coalition with the Vlaams Belang.
“We will reward you generously, but we want the Vlaamse Belang on board the government,” would have proposed the president of the N-VA to the two parties, according to Rutten.
Words that surprised Servais Verherstraeten, the head of the CD&V group in the room: “I am not aware of such an offer. We were told nothing about it. I allow myself to doubt it. And if Mr. De Wever ever thought of making such an offer, he knows what the answer would have been, “he said.
N-VA reacts
The president of the N-VA reacted with sarcasm on the Antwerp TV channel ATV by saying that he preferred to mow his lawn rather than react to the words of Gwendolyn Rutten. On VTM, It was Theo Francken who spoke on the subject, saying that he was unaware that such an offer had been proposed to the Liberals: “I do not even know if it is true,” he said. he declares.
Among the Flemish liberals, Mrs. Rutten’s revelations did not please everyone. “It comes from an embittered relationship between two people, it’s almost physical,” said MP Vincent Van Quickenborne. Above all, he judges that Ms. Rutten’s remarks are “damaging” for the mission that the president of his party, Egbert Lachaert, is currently carrying out with the presidents of the MR and of the CD&V, Georges-Louis Bouchez and Joachim Coens, to constitute what he calls it “last chance government”.
The trio explores the path of an “Arizona” coalition, which would add N-VA, cdH and sp.a to the three current government parties (MR, CD&V, Open Vld). The eyes turn in particular to the sp.a, whose president Conner Rousseau repeated this weekend that he would not support a government without the PS.
