Diabetes Threatens Young People, Unhealthy Lifestyle Causes

Diabetes is a condition that affects the mechanisms that regulate the process of converting food into energy. In this condition, blood sugar levels rise in the body, due to insufficient insulin, which leads to a number of complications.

The food we eat is broken down into sugar which is then released into the bloodstream. When the amount of sugar in the bloodstream rises to a certain level, pancreatic insulin comes into play.

Insulin regulates blood sugar by sending it into cells to be used as energy. Individuals with diabetes do not make enough insulin to carry glucose into the cells. As a result, blood sugar levels increase. This gives rise to a condition called diabetes. There are different types of diabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes and gestational diabetes.

While there is no specific cure for diabetes, most can be managed with medication and adopting a healthy lifestyle. For this reason, it is necessary to know some of the signs of diabetes that are often overlooked, as reported by Times of IndiaWednesday (8/6/2022).

1. Increase appetite

Due to the lack of glucose in the cells of the body, the energy level of the body decreases. This in turn triggers a hunger response. So even though the person is eating right, the inability to regulate blood sugar does not meet the body’s cellular energy levels.

In simple terms, the body does not get the required energy even after eating and that is why the body signals for more energy, and therefore the individual feels hungry.

2. Blurred vision

When the amount of blood sugar rises past the threshold, it affects various body functions one of the most prominent of which is blurred vision.

Excessive blood sugar damages the blood vessels in the eyes, this is called retinopathy and if left untreated, it can lead to blindness.

3. Abnormal swelling or numbness in the hands and feet

Diabetes also affects blood circulation so that the individual can see swelling or also feel numbness in the hands and feet.

If the numbness lasts longer and does not go away, it is always advisable to have your blood sugar level checked.
