DHF Cases in East Java are Claimed to Decrease

East Java DHF cases are claimed to decrease when compared to the same period in 2020.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA – Head of the East Java Health Service, Dr. Herlin Ferlin Herliana, claimed that the number of Dengue fever Dengue (DHF) in the local area has decreased. Throughout January 2021, there were 408 patients who contracted dengue fever, in which four of them were declared dead.

This number, said Herlin, decreased when compared to the same period in 2020, where there were 1,067 patients with dengue fever, with 13 of them declared dead. “So the number of dengue fever sufferers is recorded to have decreased in early 2021 when compared to the same month in 2020,” Herlin said in Surabaya, Wednesday (10/2).

Herlin revealed that Situbondo was the area with the most dengue fever patients during January 2021. Throughout January 2021, 114 people contracted the disease carried by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

In second place is Bondowoso with a record of 42 people who have contracted dengue. Then followed by Jember as many as 28 people, Magetan 23 people, and Kediri Regency 13 people.

Meanwhile, there were two cases of dengue-related deaths in Pamekasan Regency, one patient in Situbondo Regency and one in Malang City. “This month (February) there were 10 dengue fever sufferers without any deaths,” he said.

Herlin admitted, the East Java Health Office continues to try to suppress dengue cases. One of them is by increasing community participation in the Eradication of Mosquito Nests (PSN). Namely through draining movements, tightly closing water reservoirs, removing / utilizing / recycling used goods, eradicating larvae and avoiding mosquito bites (3M plus) through the activities of one house one jumantik.

“I want to leave it, first don’t let stagnant water. Because this is a very good place to lay their eggs for mosquitoes. If there are symptoms of heat, immediately have it checked at the nearest service facility, especially if it is accompanied by a weak condition,” he said.

He also appealed to the public to immediately refer or bring to the nearest health service facility (fasyankes) if there is a family member with fever symptoms. Especially if after 2 days the fever did not go down, even after taking febrifuge.

When someone is infected with DHF, the community can provide first aid by giving as much drink as possible. “Drinks in the form of water can be added with sugar or ORS, milk or coconut water. In addition, we provide fever-reducing drugs, compress them and take them to the nearest health service facility, ”he said.
