DFB-Pokal 2nd main round results current

+++ Stuttgart, Bremen and Wolfsburg in the Cup round of 16 – Mainz eliminated +++

VfB Stuttgart made it into the round of 16 of the DFB Cup with a 1-0 (1-0) win against Bundesliga rivals SC Freiburg. Werder Bremen, who won 3-0 (2-0) at Hannover 96, also survived the second round on Wednesday evening. Before that, VfL Wolfsburg had already prevailed 4-0 (3-0) against SV Sandhausen. Crisis club FSV Mainz 05, on the other hand, lost to second division VfL Bochum 3-0 on penalties and thus experienced the next disappointment. After 120 minutes it was 2-2.

Fourth division Rot-Weiss Essen managed a surprise with a 3: 2 (2: 1) against second division Fortuna Düsseldorf. Jahn Regensburg is also one round further with a 4-2 win on penalties at third division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

The first division soccer clubs Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, FC Schalke 04, Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln made it through on Tuesday. From the 2nd league, SC Paderborn, SpVgg Greuther Fürth and SC Darmstadt 98 are one round ahead. The second round will be completed with the games Bayer Leverkusen against Eintracht Frankfurt on January 12th and Holstein Kiel against defending champion Bayern Munich one day later.

+++ DFB Cup: Third division Dresden missed a surprise against Darmstadt +++

Third division soccer team Dynamo Dresden has missed another surprise in the DFB Cup. The Saxons lost on Tuesday second division SV Darmstadt 98 0: 3 (0: 1) and were eliminated in the second round. Dresden had secured the duel with Hessen with a brilliant victory against Hamburger SV in the first round. Fabian Schnellhardt (24th minute) gave the guests the lead with a dream goal, Seungho Paik (59th) increased and striker Serdar Dursun (72nd) scored for the final score.

Even before the kick-off, Dynamo had suffered a setback. The 30,000 balloons in the main stand, which were supposed to symbolize the missing fans in the empty stadium, had to be almost completely removed. Due to strong winds with speeds of sometimes over 50 km / h, more and more balloons were loosened from their anchors on the seats and could thus get onto the lawn in an uncontrolled manner, the club said. Dresden had sold over 72,000 ghost tickets for the game.

+++ Hoffenheim fails after a penalty shoot-out to second division Fürth +++

Second division soccer team Greuther Fürth has kicked favorite TSG 1899 Hoffenheim out of the competition in the DFB Cup. The Franconians won 7: 6 on penalties on Tuesday evening (2: 2, 2: 2, 1: 1) and made it to the second round of the Cup against the Bundesliga club (2/3 February). Sebastian Ernst (21st) and Marco Meyerhöfer (46th) scored the goals for the outsider in front of the corona-related empty ranks. Paul Seguin could have made the decision earlier from the penalty spot (90 + 4), but missed. For TSG, despite goals from Andrej Kramaric (13th) and Kevin Akpoguma (49th), it put a bit of a damper on the short Christmas break.

+++ Easy 5: 0 in Elversberg: Mönchengladbach in the cup round of 16 +++

Borussia Mönchengladbach easily took the DFB Cup hurdle at the fourth division club SV Elversberg. With a 5-0 (3-0), coach Marco Rose’s team reached the round of 16 on Tuesday evening. Against the outsider from Saarland, Hannes Wolf (5th minute), Laszlo Benes (21st), captain Lars Stindl (35th), Patrick Herrmann (69th) and Julio Villalba (83th) scored a penalty for the Bundesliga club . In the empty and rainy arena on the Kaiserlinde, the host was decimated and demoralized early by the yellow-red card for complaining for Sinan Tekereci (31st).

+++ BVB beats Braunschweig! Hummels and Hazard hit the Dortmund Cup victory +++

Borussia Dortmund has two more ailing players to complain about after the last game of the year. Mats Hummels had to stay in the dressing room at halftime due to muscular problems in the 2-0 (1-0) victory in the DFB Cup at the second division soccer club Eintracht Braunschweig. Substitute Thorgan Hazard also complained of muscular problems shortly before the end and left the pitch after Jadon Sancho scored 2-0 in stoppage time, although the game was not yet over. «It was the tenth game in 31 days. You can tell that it was a very long year and a hard December, »said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic. He has not yet been able to provide any information about the severity of the injuries.

+++ Union Berlin fails in the cup at Paderborn +++

After TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, 1. FC Union Berlin is the second Bundesliga club to be eliminated in round two of the DFB Cup. The last strong capital city were surprisingly defeated by the second division SC Paderborn 2: 3 (1: 3) on Tuesday evening. Borussia Mönchengladbach, however, easily won 5-0 (3-0) against the fourth division club SV Elversberg. SV Darmstadt 98 made it into the round of 16 with a 3-0 (1-0) win at Dynamo Dresden. Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke 04, 1. FC Köln and RB Leipzig had already made it through. Hoffenheim failed in the penalty thriller at SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

+++ Cup bright spot for Schalke – Leipzig and Cologne also continue +++

FC Schalke 04 can still win. The Gelsenkirchen team, who have been without a win in 29 Bundesliga games, made it into the round of 16 of the DFB Cup on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 (1-0) win against the regional division SSV Ulm. RB Leipzig also made it into the round of the best 16 teams with a 3-0 (1-0) win at league rivals FC Augsburg. 1. FC Köln managed to advance with a 1-0 (1-0) win against VfL Osnabrück.
