Hamburg/Berlin. Because of snow and ice in the Hamburg area, train traffic between Hamburg – Berlin, Hamburg – Bremen and Hamburg – Hanover has been affected since Thursday morning. Trains were partially held back.
In the afternoon, rail traffic in the Hamburg area returned to normal, as reported by Deutsche Bahn. However, there could still be minor impairments and isolated failures.
“Please expect increased capacity utilization on the trains as well as further failures and delays,” the company tweeted.

Weather in Berlin: This is the forecast for the weekend
The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts comparatively moderate weather for Berlin and Brandenburg. Under the influence of low pressure, cool air continues to determine the weather in the region. At night it can cool down to -5 degrees. This is the weather forecast in detail:
- Thursday: In addition to clouds, also clear sections, more often cloudy in the south, most sunshine in the Uckermark. Mostly dry. Maximum values 5 to 8 degrees. Moderate, partly fresh northeast wind. Wind gusts of around 55 km/h temporarily in the northern and central parts of the country and in the Berlin area. In the evening the wind decreases. Cloudy to heavily cloudy on Friday night. Especially from Fläming to the Elbe-Elster-Kreis temporarily light sleet or some snowfall, local ice formation not excluded. Otherwise largely free of precipitation. Frost, cooling to 0 to -2 degrees.
- Friday: lots of clouds, especially north of Berlin occasionally clear sections. Mostly dry, only from the Elster to Niederlausitz some rain or light sleet for a while. Maximum temperature between 3 and 7 degrees. Moderate north-easterly wind with occasional gusts of wind in the northern half of Brandenburg and in the Berlin area, decreasing in the evening. In the night to Saturday cloudy, partly very cloudy. Slight snowfall or light sleet in places on the border with Saxony, otherwise no precipitation. Minimum temperature between 0 and -2 degrees.
- Saturday: mostly very cloudy, occasionally clear sections from the north. Mostly dry, only slight chance of showers. Temperature rise to 4 to 7 degrees. Moderate north-easterly wind with fresh gusts. In the evening the wind decreases. In the night to Sunday cloud reduction, initially still very cloudy in the south. Free of precipitation. Lows -2 to -5 degrees, moderate frost near the ground. Light wind shifting from NE to NW.
- Sunday: clear at first, increasingly cloudy in the afternoon and afternoon. Dry, only slight chance of showers. Highs around 6 degrees. Light wind shifting from northwest to west. In the night changing to Monday, partly cloudy in the north, some rain there after midnight, otherwise no precipitation. Minimum temperature between +1 in the north and -2 degrees in Lower Lusatia. Mainly weak southwest wind.
March with sun record since weather records began
The weather change is all the more noticeable because March was particularly sunny. 2022 was the sunniest March since weather records began in 1951, according to the German Weather Service after the first evaluation of the results of its around 2000 measuring stations.
The record even applies with “a very clear gap to the previous leader from 1953,” says DWD press spokesman Andreas Friedrich. March 2022 even exceeded the long-term average for July.
With more than 235 hours of sunshine in March, the target of 111 hours for the period 1961 to 1990 was more than doubled. Compared to 1991 to 2020, the positive deviation was a good 85 percent. In March 1953, 195 hours of sunshine were measured.
