Desperado, Salma Hayek reveals: “When I shot the sex scene with Antonio Banderas I cried all the time” – Corriere.it

When she accepted the part of Carolina in the 1993 film Desperado, there was no sex scene between Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas, aka El Mariachi. “But when they saw the alchemy that was between us, the production managers asked that the scene be inserted and for this I had a really difficult time”, said the 54-year-old actress, host of Dax Shepard per il podcast «Armchair Expert», admitting that she agreed to shoot that hot sequence on a closed set, with only her, Banderas, director Robert Rodriguez and his then wife, Elizabeth Avellan, who have tried in every way to make her feel at home comfortable, not putting any pressure on her.

“I’ve never done it before”

“I had never done anything like this before – continued Hayek – and when we were about to start shooting, I started sobbing. One of the things I was afraid of was Antonio, because he was a real gentleman, super nice and we are still a lot of friends, but he was also very free, so it scared me that it was nothing to him. Seeing me cry, Antonio said something like “Oh my God, you’re making me feel terrible” and I was more and more embarrassed, because others were trying to make me laugh, but I couldn’t remove the towel, I took it off two seconds and then I would start crying again ». In the end the scene in question was shot, but even today the actress is unable to enjoy it when she sees it, precisely because of the discomfort she felt on set. “When it’s not you, you can, but I kept thinking about my father and my brother and the fact that they wouldn’t be proud of it at all. In fact, when my family finally saw the film, I took them out of the cinema during the sex scene and went back with them when it was over. “
