Departmental in Seine-Saint-Denis: only one list in the second round in the canton of Pantin

It will not transform the test. The LFI-PCF list, which came in second place with 23.69% of the vote in the first round of the elections in the canton of Pantin (Pantin-Le Pré-Saint-Gervais) on Sunday, will not face the Union de la left and environmentalists carried by Mathieu Monot (PS) and Nadia Azoug (EELV), who largely took the lead in the ballot with 40.56% of the vote.

The departmental section of the Communist Party says it has cut short the duels with the PS in the 2nd round. “It is not a surprise, assures Nathalie Simonnet, departmental secretary of the party. We always said that if we got behind the PS, we would withdraw. This is the case in the cantons of Pantin, Bagnolet, Saint-Denis 1. In that of Saint-Denis 2, it will be the opposite. The PS arrives behind us, so it is he who will leave us the place. »

A decision which causes the incomprehension of Nadège Abomangoli, candidate (LFI) on the canton of Pantin, who would have liked to maintain, but cannot do it without his PCF partner. “This choice is incomprehensible to our voters. There is no risk that the canton will go to the right, since its candidates are not qualified. The voters of the center and the right – 8.69% for the UDI-LR pair and 9.35% for the LREM-MoDem pair – have no more candidates in the running. Result: the UGE list will be alone in the 2nd round…

“When you see the rate of abstention, I doubt that this kind of decision reconciles citizens with politics… breathes Nadège Abomangoli. Why not make several voices from the left heard? »

An argument refuted by Nathalie Simonnet, for whom the left must on the contrary show that it knows how to “come together” in all circumstances. History is therefore repeating itself in the canton of Pantin, since in the 2015 cantonal elections, voters had already been able to vote for only one list in the 2nd round. Only 28.31% of voters had then moved against 39.70% in the 1st round. Nearly one in five (18.08%) had cast a blank ballot in the ballot box.

For his part, the socialist candidate Mathieu Monot, also departmental secretary of the PS – and who did not respond to our requests on Monday – called for a rally on social networks to make Seine-Saint-Denis a department “ always more united, more innovative and greener! »

The results of the first round. Nathalie Crocquet and André Reinald (SE): 0.73%; Sandrine Feuillet and Alois Lang-Rousseau (PCPA): 9.75%; Nadège Abomangoli and Samir Amziane (LFI / PCF): 23.69%; Catrina Tavares and Fernand-Paul Berthenet (UDI / LR): 8.69%; Véronique Andriot and Nicolas Lamaire (RN): 7.23%; Sarah Naccache-Pérez and Alexandre Saada (LREM / MoDem): 9.35%; Nadia Azoug and Mathieu Monot (UGE): 40.56%
