Denis Shapovalov Joins List of Absentees: Withdraws from US Open Due to Knee Injury

Physical troubles follow one another for Denis Shapovalov. On the sidelines since leaving the Wimbledon round of 16 against Roman Safiullin due to a knee injury, the 24-year-old Canadian was forced to withdraw from the US Open (August 28 – September 10).

“Even though I did my best to be 100% for the US Open, my knee needs more time so unfortunately I have to retire. The energy in Grand Slams, especially in New York, does not like nothing else and I will really miss playing in front of extraordinary fans this year”, wrote on his social networks the 22nd in the world ranking, who joins Nick Kyrgios and Pablo Carreno Busta in the list of absentees.

Almost white season for Cilic

Last year, he was eliminated in the 3rd round of the US Open against Andrey Rublev after taking out Marc-Andrea Huesler and Roberto Carballes Baena. His participation in the Davis Cup in September with the Canada team, which selected him two days ago, is compromised.

And Shapovalov is not the only one brooding in this late summer.
