Dengue: the epidemic is now confirmed in Martinique – All the news about Martinique on the Internet

27 out of 34 municipalities are affected by the dengue virus at this stage. The prefect has just launched phase IV known as the “epidemic phase” of the epidemic surveillance, alert and management program (PSAGE).

Since November 2019, 1,620 cases of dengue fever have been biologically confirmed in Martinique. 5 serious cases were hospitalized and one death was deplored in February 2020.
All of the epidemiological surveillance indicators for dengue have confirmed for almost 6 weeks a tendency to intensify viral circulation in Martinique.
Between November 4, 2019 and May 31, 2020, the estimated cumulative number of clinically suggestive cases of dengue fever is 5,200 cases.

The most affected southern municipalities

27 out of 34 municipalities are affected by the virus at this stage. The most affected sectors are the municipalities of southern Martinique, including Rivière-Salée, Sainte-Anne, Sainte-Luce, Le Marin and Trois-Ilets, which have shown virtually uninterrupted viral circulation for several months.
Given the persistence of a high number of contaminations, and at the end of the management committee which brought together the ARS, the CTM, the CHUM, the prefect decided to initiate phase IV of the surveillance program, d epidemic alert and management (PSAGE).

Reinforcement of mosquito prevention and control

This transition to phase IV results in a strengthening of prevention and vector control around three axes:
> Amplified communication with the entire population (display, radio and TV spots, mobilization of partners and networks, airport, etc.)
> Reinforced mosquito control operations in the most
most affected
> Reinforcement of epidemiological monitoring and preparation of hospital structures.

What to do to protect yourself from dengue fever?

> Protect yourself individually against mosquito bites (and in particular for fragile people and young children).
> Avoid the proliferation of mosquitoes by regular monitoring of all breeding places, breeding places, which are outside and inside the house. In particular, gutters and rainwater manholes should not
not cause stagnation of water.
> Remove the flowerpot cups or replace them with flat bottoms that do not allow prolonged stagnation of water.
In anticipation of the coming return of the rains, eliminate or spill all objects likely to accumulate rainwater around the homes.
> If symptoms appear: high fever, joint pain, headache, avoid taking medication and consult a doctor.- .
