Demonstrators took to the streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, again on Monday to protest against the government of President Alberto Fernandez, despite strict quarantine measures.

Demonstrators in the capital expressed their concern about the strict quarantine in place for 150 days. They also protested against planned judicial reform and corruption, and demanded the release of prisoners.

Strict health lockdown restrictions have been imposed in the Greater Buenos Aires region since mid-March in order to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.

By adopting a strict approach, the government initially succeeded in reducing the number of infected people, compared to its regional neighbors.

However, due to the length of the quarantine period, people began to show less interest in adhering to the restrictions.

Meanwhile, about 300,000 people have tested positive for the virus, and more than 5,000 have died. The restrictions further stalemate the country’s already ailing economy.

On Friday, Fernandez announced the extension of the Corona virus restrictions to varying degrees until August 30, saying that there was a “worrying increase in infections” in the entire country.
