Switzerland has 197 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, according to figures from the Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP). The virus has caused an additional death, bringing the total to 1,717 since the start of the pandemic, and 7 new hospitalizations are reported.
The number of daily cases has not dropped below the 100 mark since August 3. On Monday, 128 new cases were announced and Sunday 200. The number of people hospitalized has risen to 4,441 people since the end of February.

Switzerland also counts 1,570 people in isolation and 4,754 individuals belonging to their contacts have been quarantined. In addition, there are 16,260 other people returning from a trip from a country at risk and who also had to go through the quarantine phase.
The pandemic has killed at least 774,832 people around the world since the end of December, according to a report established by AFP. More than 21,9360,820 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories. The countries that recorded the most new deaths in their latest reports are India with 876 new deaths, Brazil (684) and the United States (434).
The United States is the most affected country with 170,497 deaths. Brazil follows with 108,536 dead, Mexico with 57,023 dead, India with 51,797 dead and the United Kingdom with 41,369 dead. Among the hardest hit countries, Belgium is the one that deplores the highest number of deaths in relation to its population, with 86 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Peru (80), Spain (61), the United Kingdom (61), and Italy (59).
