Demi Lovato has ‘used’ her engagement to Max Ehrich to convince herself that she was on the mend after nearly passing away from a drug overdose in 2018. The singer has informed this Entertainment Weekly.
In July 2020, Lovato, 28, showed up to be engaged to Ehrich after being together for a few months. Two months later, the couple broke up.
“I fooled myself because it was the safest solution. Yes, I cared for him a lot, but somewhere in my head I heard a little voice,” says the singer.
“And that little voice told me that I did this mainly to show the outside world that everything was going well with me after my hospitalization. It was a false promise.”
She continues: “Now I’m completely free. I’m not in a relationship, I’m not engaged or married. I don’t need a very expensive ring on my finger to think that that makes my life complete.”
Lovato was already struggling with alcohol and drug addiction as a teenager. She was sober for six years, but relapsed in 2018. In July of that year she became unconscious found in her Los Angeles home after taking an overdose.
