The extortion case in Hedel
Since 2019, employees and family members of the management of fruit importer De Groot in Hedel have been threatened and extorted by criminals. That started after the management reported to the police that employees had discovered 400 kilos of cocaine in a batch of bananas. Due to a blunder by the Public Prosecution Service, names and addresses of employees came into the hands of the drug criminals.
Then blackmailers demanded millions of euros from the directors of the company. When the management did not pay, threats and attacks at the homes of employees and family members of the management followed. Criminals shot at houses, set fires and left hand grenades behind. The Public Prosecution Service spoke of a terror campaign in the court of Arnhem today.
